The Absa Cape Epic is officially heading to our valley, and the excitement across Wolseley and the entire Witzenberg region is sky-high!
The official 2027 route was unveiled at an elegant gala dinner at the Southern Sun Cape Sun in Cape Town, and we couldn't be prouder to share that 5 out of the 7 stages of the world's premier mountain bike stage race will take place right here in our backyard.
Wolseley Tourism stood proud alongside Witzenberg Municipality, Ceres Tourism Bureau, and Tulbagh Wine and Tourism to celebrate this momentous occasion. Western Cape MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie, also addressed guests, highlighting the immense value and energy this global event brings to the Western Cape.

Running from 21 to 28 March 2027, the "Untamed African Mountain Bike Race" will test riders over 8 gruelling days, covering more than 701 kilometres with a staggering 17,150 metres of elevation gain across standard two-person team formats.
💫 Here is what makes the 2027 route truly historic for our valley and beyond:
🌄The Path Across the Western Cape: The race kicks off at the iconic Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West and weaves its way through the valley before concluding at Imbuko Wines in Wellington.💓Heart of the Epic in Witzenberg: The route deeply integrates our surrounding towns—traversing Ceres, Tulbagh, and Wellington.
💥A Record-Breaking Ascent: Ceres will host a monumental historic milestone as riders conquer the ascent of Waboomsberg, reaching the highest elevation point in the entire history of the Absa Cape Epic.
💪The Queen Stage: Riders will face the legendary Cliffhanger climb, a true test of grit and endurance on the route's demanding Queen Stage.
